800 W Fulton
A hospitality-first workplace ready for the next era of work.
Architectural firm Skidmore, Owings, and Merrill (SOM) designed 800 W Fulton to embody the spirit of its location in one of Chicago’s most exciting and beloved neighborhoods. This mixed-use office building was created with sustainability and employee wellbeing in mind, and Continua Interiors embraced this ethos as we developed a strategic furniture approach for this hospitality-focused “workplace of the future.”
Working alongside SOM, the Continua team shaped the interiors of this open-plan workplace. The 40-foot tall lobby, which features dynamically layered spaces of activity, is warmly furnished with a mix of Knoll Classic Womb chairs and a Rockwell Library table for seamless collaboration. This welcoming approach continues in the versatile conferencing suites, which use a combination of Rockwell Soft Seating and Muuto Fiber Seating to accommodate a variety of group configurations, as well as the indoor and outdoor lounge areas, facilitating a seamless blending of the workplace into its bustling locale.
A combination of retail, meeting spaces, a fitness center, and a lounge keeps the site lively from morning through evening. Office floors are filled with natural light and open onto landscaped terraces with native plantings on alternating levels, supporting both wellness and sustainability. At the top of the building, rooftop terraces and a bar on the 18th and 19th floors offer expansive views of the surrounding city.
This project was a triumph of collaboration and strategy, with a majority of the work taking place during the height of the 2020 pandemic. The Continua team worked with SOM to furnish multiple floors with products shipped from over 20 manufacturers around the globe, such as BluDot, Williams Sonoma, Hay, Magnuson, Andreu World and many more, creating a workplace that is fully equipped for the next era of office life.
800 W Fulton features smart building systems that advance the project’s goals for sustainability and wellbeing. The project is certified LEED Platinum and targets WELL Building Standard certification.
