The Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community (SMSC) Healing Center is a specialized residential wellness facility providing trauma-informed care that supports mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being. Operated by the SMSC Tribal Government, the center brings together clinical, nursing, and cultural expertise to provide comprehensive care tailored to the needs of its community members. Designed to support the full spectrum of healing and wellbeing, the center brings together residential patient rooms, group spaces, workstations and offices, and café-style gathering areas. In partnership with Ryan Companies, Continua Interiors furnished the center throughout, delivering solutions tailored to each setting and its unique needs.
Community is integral to the SMSC Healing Center and is supported by various collaborative spaces. Group rooms create a place for conversation and culturally respectful mental and spiritual healing. In the shared open spaces, workstations and offices offer private places for the building’s occupants to work or collaborate. The large window-lined plaza and café feature a convertible wall that allows the spaces to be one or separate when more privacy is needed. Stackable NaughtOne Polly chairs and HermanMiller Everywhere tables on casters make rearranging the room for different uses simple. These intentional MillerKnoll furnishings allow for versatility and flexibility in these two spaces, whether that be community events, gathering for meals, or presentations.
Our healthcare furniture team procured solutions from Stance and Carolina for the nurse stations and clinic rooms on the healthcare side of the center that provides various levels of care for the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community. A warm neutral color palette carried throughout the center reflects the patient experience of receiving care and healing. Residential patient rooms outfitted with OFS give privacy and comfort to those engaged in the center’s structured programming offering daily routines and essential cultural activities.
The new Healing Center for the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community creates greater access to personalized, community-centered care. Working closely with SMSC, the Continua Interiors team helped shape a space designed around the community’s needs today while providing the flexibility to evolve for the future.
